CHRISTIAN PELLVING | Creative Director, Director, Photographer bio picture

WELCOME!

My name is Christian Pellving and I  do a lot. It could be develop strategies, write and produce films and commercials, concepting ideas, project manage, photograph or copywrite.

But foremost it needs to communicate and tell a story or make you feel.

The media channel of choice is not the issue. The strategy and effect as a result is.

Based in Uppsala, Sweden, with award winning projects done all over the world, I hope that you will keep an eye at my blog and at my galleries to find out more.

Maybe we even will communicate.

I vårt älskade Stockholm – In our beloved Stockholm

My latest work is a concept for the client, a grocery store, PrisXtra in Stockholm. The campaign I have created is – I vårt älskade Stockholm (”In our beloved Stockholm”). The purpose is, besides branding, to tell the people of Stockholm that the opening hours are from 8 am to 10 pm and to tell them about the weekly offerings. I hope to give a good feeling for Stockholm and a reminder of the beauty of our capital where PrisXtra is located.

To enhance these feelings about Stockholm, what song is better than Monica Zetterlund’s “Sakta  vi gå genom stan“, originally made in 1930 by Fred E. Ahlert and Roy Turk and then translated to a Swedish version by Beppe Wolgers (I’m a big fan) in 1961. And to make this a tiny bit more modern we’ve made a new studiorecording of the song with the lovely and very kind Maja Gullstrand. Arranged and mixed by Adam Nordén.

I also did the copy and direction of the two commercials for TV. The production company is Populate AB from Uppsala, faboulus team. The result is one 10-second film and a 30-second version with offers that will be aired with new offerings for 7 weeks. The campaign for TV started this week and will end at new years’. Since I’m also a photographer I did the timelapse sequences and product shots, most of the timelapses are in the 10 seconds spot.

There are more around this campaign in the works. Stay tuned. See the spots below.

10 seconds. Brand.

30 seconds. Offerings.

If a brand isn’t human it’s not really worth shit

As Dan Wieden, Weiden and Kennedy Advertising, says

” If a brand isn’t human it’s not really worth shit.”

One man, amongst many others, that have made advertising a better place to be: Hal Riney. Mainly  recognized for ads for the now dead car brand Saturn.

He made advertising believable, trustworthy and emotional and as the records points out, the ads sold cars for a long, long period of time.

Ad campaign: Saturn – “A different kind of company. A different kind of car.”
Agency: Hal Riney & Partners

My precious iPhone

For almost 2 years now she has helped me through difficulties and provided me joy.

Been in my back pocket, front pocket. Five times fallen into the ground. Travelled in Malaysian heights. Buried in sand at Bali surf-beaches. Calling from humidity of Borneo jungle. In snow cold arctic weather of north of Sweden. Sleeping alone at night in a small igloo out on the porch. Pull through bad weather and rains. Twittering  in Cambodia, however very slowly, due to lack of fast speed mobile net. Finger-sketching round circles and solid colors and hearts. Playing car games. Helping tired parents out with movies for angry kids. Making kids happy playing musical instruments.

She has image-captured orangutang, my kids, a screen-capture, diving trip in Thailand,  pizza in Italy, champagne in Spain, view from 40th floor in Kuala Lumpur, hiking in Sylarna Sweden, snowscootering, boat-trips, lobster fishing, friends, lots of friends sleeping the day after the party, sunrise, visual notes. Lots of work stuff – you get the point.

I have always been positive about her and wishing that this could be it, for the rest of my life.  Thinking maybe – it´s possible. One mobile the rest of my life, like my leather man, a painting, Peli case or our best dinner set. Rest of my life.

One day I was going to take my kids out for a weekend trip with our boat, Tent, food, you name it was carried to the boat on the jetty, and my kids, girl 5yrs and boy 6yrs, walked in front of me towards the boat. Suddenly my daughter tripped and fell with her head right into the sea. I jumped to the place but couldn’t reach here, yes she was wearing lifejacket. So I jumped in the sea. My daughter was fine after changing to dry clothes.

But…, my iPhone was as wet as the rest of me.

Dripping and running wet phone… That was that, no more, gone. No spark, dead.

10 days later I took her out from the drawer and put her in the cradle. After a very long time she opened her eyes and took a screen-capture of her self, probably to see if all was ok, like how bad do I look this morning. And restarted again.

She is back! In the same shape as before, in fact, maybe a tiny bit cleaner.

My precious iPhone. Will you be with me until end of time? In some way she definitely will.

Oh Brother

I love this one. Great story with feelings, unusual and really stands out in the ads for car commercials. Love the characters play with the song. However, maybe the car is just a tiny bit to small in the end?

The new CirkusPrinsessan 2009

I´m happy to announce that Robert Bronett chose PELLVING.COM to be their agency for his event CirkusPrinsessan 2009

So rather than blogging I have been working with re-branding and marketing; new identity and new web have been produced and more marketing materials to come.

Cirkus_logo_Color

On a very tight deadline for the web, together with the production company Populate, we manage to develop a new website with an upload for circusprincess acts, online videoplayer and viewer voting system.

Female circus artists can upload their act to the website from all over the world. The viewers can watch and then vote on their favorite of choice. Top voted acts will then have the chance to become CirkusPrinsessan 2009. SMS voting and MMS competitions is also new additions to the site.

For the illustration of this year´s poster I worked together with Tomas Jansson. 3d Flash content on About page  is produced by Dabber.

There will be print ads and TV spots developed through out september/october until the event starts 22nd of October.

Bauta ad campaign and commercials for Alina systems

alina_bauta

I had the pleasure to develop an ad campaign concept for the computer retail seller Alina Systems with the premise of a small player in Swedish retail arena but with excellence in services and prices. WIth the payoff  ”Rather better than large” (Swe:”Hellre bäst än störst”). I created the concept of Bauta (bigger than large and huge and of course bigger than mega big) service and offerings from Alina Systems. Swedish: Bauta service och Bauta erbjudanden. I also directed these first two commercials: Bauta blow (swe: Bauta blås) and Bauta landing net (swe: Bauta håv).

Together with the production company Populate, that contacted me for this work, and the DoP Mats Ardström we entered the shooting day early. Filmed with the RED one camera on a hot summer day, atleast for Swedes…

pellving_alina-20090702_bonde_alina

Will be aired at TV4 during the summer in Alina Systems retail towns of Uppsala, Enköping, Norrköping and my birth town Östersund.

Lonely little idiot

Small. Friends joining. Unknown but not unfair. Creativity without pressure, without deadlines, without market awareness.

Homemade, giving a singel away for free, put an album and a video and David Lynch into the mix; it’s greatness.

This is Moby. Wait for me. I love the lonely little idiot.

And his blips.

The year the media died

It’s a 9 minutes long video made by L. McDuff, but it’s worth it.

Quotes:

“Tech has taken us for a ride”

“We all tried to sell our firms”

“Our business models lost in space”

“Consumers love of free”

How to make ad campaign work?

What we already knew but can be said again.

In Journal of Advertising Research june by Les Binet DDB Matrix, Peter Field Consultant

  • Focus on hard objectives, such as specific market-share gains, rather than soft ones, such as brand awareness
  • Focus on price, not volume
  • Focus on penetration (winning new consumers) rather than loyalty
  • Influence consumers emotionally rather than rationally
  • Create ads with “talk value”
  • Have a high share of voice relative to brand market share
  • Include TV in the mix
  • Include a small number of media channels with a concerted message
